What happens when AI makes it feel like every random idea could become an actual app?

In this episode of Unfiltered-ish, Natali, Carina, and Nicki talk about AI, app ideas, Claude Code, kids learning tech, video games, business models, old-school computer games, and what it means when creativity suddenly has fewer barriers. What starts with working on a holiday, Oura Ring drama, cleaning, diamonds, and a cowboy game built by Carina’s 13-year-old turns into a bigger conversation about building apps, monetization, TikTok marketing, lead magnets, and whether AI is changing what’s possible for entrepreneurs.

We also accidentally invent several apps, including My Gay Brother, Mean European Auntie, and a missionary mom support app. Then the conversation turns toward masterminds, sales calls gone wrong, bad first impressions, hiring mistakes, VAs, Upwork, AI replacing low-level tasks, and why being truly good at your craft still matters.

If you’ve ever had a business idea, wondered what AI can actually help you build, fantasized about making an app, or had a sales call so bad you immediately lost trust, this episode is for you.

Unfiltered-ish is the midlife group chat for women talking honestly about friendship, ambition, marriage, dating, money, aging, reinvention, joy, and wanting more out of life.

SPEAKER_02

Hi, I'm Natalie. It is Friday, July 3rd, a federally observed holiday, and I have been working all day.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hi, I'm Nikki. I am also working. I mean, I can't remember the last time I took off a holiday. Except for you know like Christmas.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I even work on Christmas.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Hi, I'm Karina. And yes, I have worked a full day, but I've also accomplished some other things, which is like non-worky, but I guess contributes to my life happiness. Like I built some fabric shelves. I'm gonna clean out my craft supplies from the house. So on top of working, my favorite thing to do is actually cleaning my house on a holiday on a holiday.

SPEAKER_01

Is that so sad? No, if that's for you, that's great.

SPEAKER_03

But well, it's because there's no other time to do it because I'm not gonna be able to do it on a regular workday. True.

SPEAKER_01

But that's why when I had a house, I had cleaners.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I have cleaners too, but you know, they're cleaning. I need to lean.

SPEAKER_02

Cleanier, cleaners are not enough to do all the cleaning that needs to happen that gets dirty throughout the week.

SPEAKER_03

I also think we don't do true cleaning. Let's let me let me let me preface that. We do decluttering. Like I need to like, you guys, Felicity has been gone now for a week and a half, and I have still not stepped into her room to see what is going on in there. And she's not gonna be in there for 18 months, right? So it's like I need to go through and I need to like box things up and like you can hire people to do that too.

SPEAKER_01

My friend Kate, uh I probably shouldn't shout out the name of the the government. I don't know, can I? What's our do we have any rules about that? Or do you shout out whatever the hell we want to? I think we shout out whatever the hell we want. Why not? Yeah, so Kate Roberts, be organized in northern, northern B-E-E, uh in in the north suburbs of Boston.

SPEAKER_03

Um what if what if every time we shout something out, we just like send an invoice? We're like, we spend $3,000. You're the new sponsor for the podcast. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Today's podcast is sponsored by whoever we decide it's going to be sponsored by.

SPEAKER_01

What do you guys want to get?

SPEAKER_02

How many companies do you think would just pay our invoice?

SPEAKER_01

We just send it, you know. Today's today's podcast is sponsored by Diamonds. So that's another diamond. Easy kiss begins with K.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yes. The De Beers family is being sponsoring our podcast.

SPEAKER_03

But I really like that Natalie sang the logo. Like that's extra.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. I may have violated copyright or something. I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_01

I that's a good question.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

But it would be silly to ever uh get us for that though, because all we did was just like sponsor their thing.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, for sure. And and anybody who happens to be listening is gonna be like, wow, I wasn't really sure about that K Jewelers, but now that I heard about it from the Sulter Dish podcast, I'm gonna pop on by there and get myself some bling. So you're welcome.

SPEAKER_02

I actually don't think I've ever been inside of a K's or have ever had anything from a K's. I don't know, unless like a high school boyfriend brought me jewelry from K's and I didn't know where it was from.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's kind of the vibe. Isn't it the like where a guy doesn't really know where to shop? And you know, better that than nothing. I'll say that.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, certainly so true. Yeah, wait, speaking of jewelry, you guys, do you want to see what's happening on my hand? Yes, yeah. Okay, so I don't think I told you guys that my gold aura ring fell into Bear Lake while I was.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I remember you saying that.

SPEAKER_03

But did I tell you guys? Uh-huh. And so I was like, I'm going to make up for past mistakes. And so I was like, I just can't wear it on my index finger. That's where I've been wearing it. And just like everything slips off. I was like, it has to go on a ring finger. Well, I have a ring for both of those. Like, I have my wedding ring and my diamond, and then I have this really special little ring that had custom made, and it really is meaningful to me. So I was like, what am I gonna do about the aura ring? So this time, first of all, I've lost enough weight that I was like, I was down a size, right? Yeah, and so Josh was like, just get rid of your regular band.

SPEAKER_01

Don't wear your regular band because it's just too many pieces and put it with this ring because it's very special to me, but I'm happy to get rid of my wedding band.

SPEAKER_03

This is making sense, okay. My wedding brand's pretty unspecial, is what I'm gonna say. And Josh, and actually, Josh is the one who suggested. He was like, just keep your diamond, that's the one that matters to the two of us. And the other one, Josh was like, just you know, you're not gonna wear that. It actually has worked out great because I'm used to a ring on this finger, so I don't notice it. And with the index finger, I always notice my or a ring. So I just feel like it's far more comfortable. I don't know, it's interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Now mine on my middle finger. Yeah, I was you that's what um do you have you felt awkward or like weird not having the wedding band on once you once you took the phone?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, definitely in the beginning, because I, you know, I'd I'd always go like this to feel it, you know? And it was a nice size ring, you know? Yeah. So uh it's totally normal now though. I don't have any, it doesn't feel like something is missing. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But in the beginning, it's like, oh my gosh, where to go? What's happening? Yeah. Where'd it go? Oh, I took it off.

SPEAKER_03

So interesting. Well, I think we should talk about. So before we started this podcast, we were talking about apps because now with AI, you can build so many incredible things. And this summer I made Charlie, he his like he has to spend one hour a day in Claude Code building stuff. He's built this incredible cowboy game. It's like got a map, it has bad guys, it has a gun shop where you can choose your kind of like the kind of gun you want. I'm not endorsing this because I'm not a big believer in guns, but like apparently in video games, that's a thing. He was like, he one of the things he said to me, I said, Wait, you have a gun shop? And he was just like, Well, yeah, I'm not gonna make everybody just use a rifle.

SPEAKER_01

And I was like, Cowboys, you gotta have a six shooter, you gotta have that's basically all I know about guns.

SPEAKER_03

And he's been trying to figure out, but listen to how cool this is. Some of his friends have been helping him, so they will text him pictures, they'll draw a picture of like a horse or something, and then he will import it into Claude Code and it will build like the animated version of that because he couldn't find a picture of a horse on the internet.

SPEAKER_01

What is wrong with his friends? These kids, Charlie Star, these kids are dumb. I drew a picture of a horse here, put it into your game.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's for the artistic reasons, Nikki, but they're making great points because I think everybody wants to feel like they're contributing to this game, and so that's how they're doing it. No more horse pictures, kids.

SPEAKER_00

I don't need those.

SPEAKER_03

So they've been building this game, and I'm like, it's pretty impressive. I mean, it's better than like you know, the Atari games when we were little, like Adventure and stuff. Like, it's not just a dot, it's like more like it looks like Minecraft, like it's like got a real person, and he's moving around, and you see his different guns, and it's pretty crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Won't they bring back um uh Oregon Trail? I mean, it was the best game. It was where in the world is San Diego.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we are definitely getting sued this episode. Rocapella is coming after us hard.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I think those versions like actually exist. I bet if you looked up Oregon Trail, because we bought one of those, um, I think it was only a couple hundred dollars, one of those game things where you connect it to your Nintendo Switch and you get like 200 old games. So we've got like adventure and a bunch of games. I have the new version of it.

SPEAKER_01

Like, yeah, I want to forge the river and all that kind of stuff, but think of how like interesting and in-depth you can make it and you could learn and you could build cabin, like go full-on little house business idea.

SPEAKER_03

You call Oregon Trail and get the copyright so you can build the new version, Nick.

SPEAKER_04

I can't just say okay.

SPEAKER_02

But what I want to say is actually how freaking cool is it that this is summer break where most kids are just doing nothing really of substance and your son. Yeah, exactly. Like drawing horses or just like in the swim pool or just you know, doing watching TV, playing video games, and your son is here learning like the technology to create a game. Like, talk about setting up for success. And it's like one hour a day. It's not anything unreasonable, except for it hasn't been one hour a day because I'm sure he's doing it more.

SPEAKER_03

I think he dragged it six to ten hours a day because he became obsessed with it and started building all this cool stuff, which I wasn't sad about. But I am going to say this I think he's playing more video games because of it, and he's calling it uh research genius. So he's involved out of mom. I need some Robux.

SPEAKER_01

He's small.

SPEAKER_03

He has done that a few times because he's like, Mom, I there's this horse game on Robux. I'm trying to figure out and like I can see him playing it and also trying to build. Like, so he's got two screens up, and so I totally can see what he's doing. But there's the other part of me that's kind of like, what did I just do? What did I just I don't know?

SPEAKER_01

You either created a monster or a multimillionaire. Maybe a little both. Maybe both. Yeah, maybe both. Let's see. I think the Ben diagram of those two is not always so far apart.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly. Yeah, it just makes me laugh because Josh was like, uh, Charlie, did mom already say you should be making $15,000 by the end of the month? And he was like, Yes. No, I was like, by end of summer, you should be making $15,000 a month on this app. And like my kids roll their eyes, and Josh is just like, I don't see why not.

SPEAKER_01

No, but truly, like, how I mean, obviously the point of it is not monetization, but have you run the numbers? What do you think is it what's a feasible monetization goal?

SPEAKER_03

I think at the beginning, not very much, right? Because it's really about like, it's like anything else, good marketing. So, like, I would want to dig into like what are the most popular games right now that you can download from the app store. Is it a game where you have paid pieces, or is it a game that you run ads on and you're making money from the ads? It's you have to decide what the model is really going to be. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Check out uh, I sent you guys the the I forwarded it one of the podcasts I've been listening to, I think it was Starter Story. And um, he talks to a lot of people who a lot of actually young, it actually be good for Charlie to listen to. Um, he talks to a lot of primarily young men who have built apps. Um, and one of their main ways of generating traction is on TikTok, is finding a TikTok influencer, paying them, you know, 500 bucks to be on there, and they are getting a ton of downloads based on that.

SPEAKER_03

Um, we we know that TikTok shop is like killing it, right? But those are mostly for physical products.

SPEAKER_01

We've kind of just influencers who've yeah, just influencers that are doing it.

SPEAKER_03

I just think at this stage, first of all, I don't know that I want to introduce my 13-year-old to this world, right? So then I think I would be the managing marketing director for it. And I think what else are you doing? Oh, I you're right. I think that one of the things that I think at the beginning, when you're this young, or even Siri, because Siri is doing game design and development, I think at this age it should be more about less of like how much money can I make and more about how can you make quality stuff and just put it up, see how it goes. Because it's like the volume game we all play, right? It's like the first 20 things you put up there, you're probably not gonna sell any of it, right? But it's like the process of just learning how to build something, see how it works, see how users like it. And then if you make a little money, great. But if you don't, it's okay. You just build the next thing. I actually think that people who make too much money at the beginning, I actually think those are the ones that really struggle in life. Like, because then what do you have to live up to? Right?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, yes, or there's the you have money and you don't have to worry about money, and then you can explore your deeper purpose.

SPEAKER_03

Which also it's probably going to be video games for my kids. Let's let's be honest.

SPEAKER_01

It's kind of like that uh start of philanthropy. He could who knows what Charlie's future is gonna be. Have you met this boy? Yes, you have.

SPEAKER_03

You have a just again, but like who knows what his life's gonna turn into. Probably video game addiction, okay? Let's just be honest. That's why he that's why he went for this Claude Code thing. So anyway, but that led me into thinking about like Karina, what could you create for your people that they would really, really love? And I was listening to this other podcast and I was like, he just does like a daily affirmation, and I was thinking about Nikki and her meditation stuff, and I was like, there's gotta be things that we all the three of us could create, and those of you listening to us could create that could be free or paid that people would be interested in.

SPEAKER_02

What was the affirmation app? What was the model there? Was he making money on it or was it a free lead magnet?

SPEAKER_03

No, I think it was he was making money on it, but he was like charging a low-cost monthly. I think so. That's what it sounds like to me. I think that's interesting. I also like the idea of lead magnet type apps, right?

SPEAKER_02

Like I only with maybe inside a higher level, like if they want to unlock it, then they get the membership. Then they have to pay the membership.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And then maybe putting ads inside of it to like help compensate for you spending time on it. But I I have a feeling it's like anything else. I it's gonna kind of flop at the beginning. Like you've gotta like figure out what because people are so distracted. Why are they gonna open up your app, you know?

SPEAKER_02

You know what I think might be fun, because we are going to be together very soon, which I'm so excited about. But it might be fun for one evening, like to set aside two, three hours, pour some drinks, have some snacks, get on the top of the cottage in the cozy beds, and like see what we can create in two to three hours in terms of a nap. Like, let's just create an app and see what happens. Wouldn't that be fun? That would be really fun. Put on something in the background for like fun or whatever, but just like let's just because we've all downloaded Replit, we can all just play.

SPEAKER_01

And I like the idea too. If it's like, okay, by the end of this two or three hours, you have to have something. Yeah, something that is usable. So none of the like, oh, this isn't perfect. No, I'm gonna work on it more on this later. I'm gonna it's like, no, no matter what, you have to have something shippable at the end of that work period.

SPEAKER_02

We'll probably learn more and be better able to make whatever we want to make after that two to three hours, you know? I agree.

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I think the hardest part for me is like, what's the thing? Is it something that moves you into the university? Is it something that moves you into Karina Gardner Inc.? Is it something that's just fun? So yeah, I might I might have to really think a little bit on that.

SPEAKER_01

Would it be something fun that moves you into I mean, always, you know?

SPEAKER_02

It would be fun for me to build an app that was basically my brother's voice. And I would just take a picture of myself every morning and what I was wearing, and he'd be like, girl, what do you think you're doing? Go in there and change. That looks horrible. Or he'd be like, the voice would be like, Oh, yes, girl, that looks amazing. Put on some high heels first, and then that is awesome. Turn to the side, let me snap, take a picture, turn this side, ch you know, like so. It's like your my brother like either hypes me up or tears me down every morning. I think that would be a really fun app to create.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. You could call it my gay brother.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, my gay brother. Here we go.

SPEAKER_01

I love that. That's really cute. And then if you if you actually have a gay brother, you could have that gay brother like record certain sentences and then the app could could use that voice, like to use record certain sentences to like to learn the voice and then use that voice. And if not, it can just default to to your brother.

SPEAKER_02

Or if somebody wants a gay brother, I can say, you can borrow my brother, and then they pay the membership cost to get the app. Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, everybody has to pay for the app. I'm just saying you can customize it. If you have a gay brother, you can customize it with your own gay brothers. Yes. Or you can use um Natalie's gay brother. Or maybe eventually you can get like celebrity sponsorships and you can get like, oh, it'd be big during during Pride Month. Like okay, so Pride Month, you have um celebrity, you have uh gay celebrities, and but but during Pride Month, all process all um proceeds go to you know, like supporting LGBTQ plus use, that kind of thing. Oh, this is good.

SPEAKER_02

This is yeah, and then all the high-end designers can also just ship me their clothing to wear to have my brother judge it.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, this sounds like amazing. Why do you own a dementia care business? This seems ridiculous.

SPEAKER_01

I know I love that, Mikey brother. I love that. That might be what I create. MGB. Like MGB. Like, I like it, but did you did you snap a picture on MGB yet? Because you know, yeah, you gotta be sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yes. It takes forever. Sometimes you snap a picture of your outfit to girlfriends and then they don't respond right away, but you have to head out the door in 30 minutes. MGB is there for you all the time, whenever you need.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And it could be like, you need to accessorize, or like, whoa, honey, way too many accessories. Uh I love this MGB. I'm here for it. Also to have Sunel as your as your like poster gay brother is perfect.

SPEAKER_03

I mean he is kind of perfect for this.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, for sure. Like perfect for your marketing, perfect for this. Is this excellent.

SPEAKER_02

And then there'd be little um bonus things like so. If my brother is really harsh because he doesn't like soften his words, you can press you if after you've used it at like at least a week, you get one Kleenex. And like over two weeks, you get two Kleenexes. So when he really tears you down, you can press the button to get Kleenex.

SPEAKER_01

That's button the Kleenex, you get Kleenex, and then you get snow being like, okay, I know that was tough, but don't forget that you're a goddamn goddess. And yeah, only being hard on you because I want you to be the absolute best person that you can be. Oh, I love that.

SPEAKER_02

He'd be like, Why are you crying? Now now you look so much better.

SPEAKER_03

Speaking of the harsh words, like, you know what I was just thinking when you said that? So I okay, we just sent Felicity off on her mission, and someone said, Don't be surprised if she comes home and she kind of talks harshly. Like she's a little more like abrasive. And I was like, What are you freaking talking about? And they're like, She's in Europe, right? And I was like, Yes. And apparently all their missionaries that came from Europe come home talking more abrasive. Natalie, you're nodding your head. I'm wondering if that's because you guys grew up in Europe.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's very much you don't why lie or soften something? You just tell the truth. If you love somebody, you tell the truth. And sometimes the truth doesn't sound pretty, so you just say it.

SPEAKER_01

So that explains why Natalie's such a bitch.

SPEAKER_02

I I I will say, like, I'm pretty good. Like my family will say I'm mean. You know, they'll be like, you're so mean, but I don't think like my friends or like I know how to shift into where I'm supposed to be. You know what I mean? Like I know the family culture, and then I know the like non-family culture of how you're supposed to be.

SPEAKER_03

Well, just like it's really treat us, what the true Natalie is, right? Because United States culture, you soften everything, you kind of sandwich everything, right? You say something soft and then you say the thing and then you soften it again. Which is versus so there's this crazy story someone was telling me that like there was this Polynesian girl, she's a Polynesian girl in the France Mission, and uh she said that this she was speaking French to a French guy, and he said in English to her, I do not understand your Chinese. And she just started crying because I was 18. And I was just like, Okay, Felicity, I'm telling you the story so that you like if this happens to you, you'll be okay. And she was like, I'm gonna be fine, mom. Like they can see mean things to me. And I know she didn't say this, but I know part of her was thinking, it's because you're Chinese, mom. Because also the Chinese are extremely blunt. My mom will just straight up say if you look fat, you know, like my mom, I think it's hurt some of my sisters. Like, I think that they have some issues because of it, but like straight up she would just be like, You're so fat, you know, like and I'm just like she's never said that to me, but she's blunt about other things, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Very interesting. So, what apps are you all going to create? Or you don't know you're gonna think about it.

SPEAKER_01

Now I feel like mean European auntie might be the app. You do my gay brother, I'll do mean European auntie, and I'll make an app for missionary moms.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, your first day. Here are some all the things you should do on your first day so you don't cry too hard or spend too much time crying. I like the Kleenix idea. Like maybe you could just push Kleenixes all day long that just say nice things to you, like your child's gonna be fine, they're gonna do a great job, you're gonna be okay.

SPEAKER_02

Like it's like a missionary countdown with like areas of the map that they've been, and like here, right around this time, you might be feeling this way, how to prep for them to come back, what to expect. And you know, the LDS community would totally eat that up and support it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that's like, remember that thing that I sent you guys that you just like choose where on the map you uh think that so, like if you could add that piece in, like you'd get them in early, and then like on their first day, you could be like you put in. date that their your kid's gonna leave. And then that day is like a special thing like that happens on the app. It's like all of these things like happy, like you know, to make you feel better.

SPEAKER_01

Well and all of the so you can you can have the like the you can have the the the pre-app, right? Like the okay this is your packing list. These are things you need to prepare. Oh you're okay your child's going to France which means they're gonna need this and like I'm sure you have all the information but like right there packaged in an app and then you've got them using it and then you just try and they're like just cancel after my no you transition them right into the emotional support part of the app.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah it's true and other people who have been in that area can leave tips but also to get it to grow you can take bets from family and friends like who's gonna cry more on leaving day Felicity Karina or Josh and then people can poll and vote.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah that's a great idea yeah yes well it's just okay I don't think we've been on we haven't been on since Felicity left but I was totally surprised at how emotional I was that day it felt dramatic. Like I was like Karina get it together but literally she gets like I see her walk away which you know I'm at that airport every single month maybe twice a month you know and I see her walk away so I know exactly where she's going it's gonna be fine. And I just start bawling like it's nobody's other and I look at Josh and I just say this is the worst day of my life and I'm like that says a lot because I've been through a lot of hard things and I was like I cannot believe how dramatic I am and I had a full day of meetings on purpose but anytime there was like an hour or two that was empty I would just cry that whole hour. And so I was like I think I just didn't listen or hear from everyone who told me it was a hard day but like once I started saying how bad it was like almost everybody was like Karina I threw called for three hours I cried for three hours because I sent my daughter to a third world country and like in just like these stories and I was just like oh yeah okay all right you're not crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Well I was you struggle when you sent them to college I'm sorry like when you sent them to city well you get to see them all the time they're it's still in the same state but this you're not gonna get to see her for a really really long time. I wonder if it's like with childbirth where I feel like nobody actually tells you what it's like but they're like it's gonna be fun but you're gonna you're gonna get through it it's gonna be fine.

SPEAKER_00

And then afterwards you're like oh my God I was ripped in half.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah and I also think it might have been like until you experience it you don't really know and that's the way pregnancy is too like you like you hear everybody telling tips you read the stupid what to expect when you're expecting book but until you actually give birth or you like you're like oh oh I get it now because one of my friends Susie has said Karina we dropped him off at the uh at the MTC and then we went to a movie so that we could just literally sit inside the movie and cry in the dark and I was like I mean I heard those words I didn't understand those words until I did it well you're also so busy and just getting everything ready and yeah running around until the moment she walks away and then it's like yeah it was like it was kind of crazy. I've never really felt those types of feelings before and I didn't feel really love for your children. Yeah new that new for you yeah and then the better late than never of relief when she messaged me the first time you know like it's like so much relief.

SPEAKER_01

So anyway her emails are the cutest thing like oh my gosh I'm delighted delighted by everything that's happening with Sister Gardner delighted.

SPEAKER_03

Oh I love it so much. Yeah it's been really really good and it was fun because on her P Day which by the way Natalie's I didn't know what it was either it's called it's preparation day that's what it says P day preparation day. I think it's so they can do their laundry day and their they can go shopping she went down to Chorley they went and got sweets at the grocery store like they just you know what I mean you can go to the museums and stuff like that's her day like she can go sightseeing and stuff. So like I'm kind of excited for her because I'm kind of like I almost want to map out for her like here are all the things you should do while you're in Paris and here are all the things you should do anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah what is her like does she and I realize obviously this is not a tourism thing but like does she get a certain amount of days off that she gets to explore or is it mostly like seven days you are in it one day.

SPEAKER_03

One day a week every week like that's that P day they get okay oh it's a P day every week. Oh okay yeah yeah so at the MTC it's on Wednesday but out in the field it's on Tuesday. So yeah so they get one day a week and it depends on where you are in the world like my nephew Jack is in Brazil and they don't go sightseeing. It like takes them so long just to do their laundry. I don't know if it's because partially they're boys but also because they have to do so much of it by hand.

SPEAKER_01

Oh sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah like if you're especially in Peru we have like lots of kids in Peru like it's third word contract like it's like they're not out sightseeing. They're just like trying to like go to the grocery store and get on the because they're taking the bus everywhere. And so I feel really lucky for her for this because we have heard that a lot of the kids get to go do so many incredible things.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Also I want to talk to these Peru kids because I feel like there's a way to divvy up the the like okay this group's doing laundry and grocery shopping for everybody this week and next week is going to be this group like I really I want to I'm gonna head down to Peru and I'm gonna help these kids out because they should be exploring also doing their laundry on the typical workday like 12 hours it's like not a work day I don't know how to explain it but I think they end also I don't 100% know.

SPEAKER_03

But it's like right now on the MTC it's different than other things she does. Like so for example she wakes up they get to exercise they have personal study time they do some other things in the morning then it's lunchtime. Then they have like three hours in the afternoon where they're learning French right now and then they go to dinner. Then after dinner they do three hours of like preach my gospel and then it's bedtime. So like they're they're packed in their day but I don't think you could be like it's a 12 hour day you know it's just like a regimented day you know and then their their regular day I mean they have certain times they have a curfew like they need to be in by I don't even know what the time is you know but they always they can go exercise first thing in the morning and they're always with a companion anyway okay we can get off this topic but I like the idea of a missionary app.

SPEAKER_02

I agree yeah it's like a fun idea yeah because I think if we want something to be able to show at the end of our three hours doing it it's gonna be hard to do it on our business because of course it needs to be all kinds of things. Yeah so if it's something silly oh well we've got we've learned the muscle of how to create an app and yeah I think that's yeah I agree.

SPEAKER_03

I also think it's good because I don't know how much an app really costs to run and I'm I'm kind of interested once we get it in there like I know that some of these people have been saying like it costs hundreds of dollars you know every single month to run it's like okay well like it's got to make some kind of money or break even to make it worth running if you're going to spend that kind of money right yeah interesting anyway I like this idea of apps I also like for my business I think it'd be great to put together an Amsterdam travel app for my group I think that would be great I think that's gonna take you no time to do I don't think so either and maybe I'll do that because I feel like the missionary one sounds kind of hard yeah maybe we can maybe not who knows or maybe we do an app Nikki like you said for our mastermind.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah I think it will we're doing a we're um what we're getting together to meet for is our seven figure sleepover. So we got um messaged a bunch of a bunch of women that we know that are in business and um then they some of them are inviting friends and so I like I know probably three quarters of the people there. I know you guys know a little bit less but um so we're all getting together and just meeting up in Park City to talk business and um expand our networks and it'll be a good time. But I was saying that yes maybe I'll just put together an app so we've all got on our phone like the location of the Airbnb which we don't have yet right we don't have no we have it. Oh we do have it okay send it to me when you go a second because with everybody's email addresses and maybe what hotels they're staying in and just like I don't know pizza delivery places in the area and nice restaurants we want to go to and you know that kind of yeah agreed I think that'll be great and that's an easy one to put together too that like that feels like an easy one. Yeah I think I can knock that out in an afternoon. That's not going to be my project for that evening because I want to do something in addition that's fun. But like I feel like I could probably knock that out tomorrow afternoon if I'm sitting in front of the TV. Because because you don't have anything else going on well see in my head I'm like well that's taking that's taking the day off from business because I'm building an app for something business adjacent.

SPEAKER_03

Oh I like I like the reasoning right it's kind of like a day off because it'd be fun okay thank you um we will be staying please don't come find us um unless you're cute in which case please do um yeah so I'm gonna build that out or it's gonna be a good time I'm really looking forward to it I'm excited to meet some new people we haven't I haven't been in a mastermind now for two years almost two years hasn't been quite two years. I think the last group I was in was Cole Gordon's group and I love being in a mastermind. I think there is something to be said about being in a mastermind but I just I don't have the space for it in my brain right now. Also I keep getting phone calls from our favorite peoples who want me to join their masterminds and I'm like your mastermind is useless to me. I cannot do X amount of marketing I cannot do X amount of sales.

SPEAKER_01

I own a university now things have changed you know yeah um and not to not to at anybody but speaking of Cole Gordon um the so I I kept getting served at their ads for closers.io and I was like oh I should um I should let me just talk to them because as I'm getting the corporate offer up and going you know I've got I'm sending out I'm using Apollo to send out emails I'm testing out a company that sends stuff out via AI and manages it that way I'm like right let's see it because let me let me see if an SDR would be would be useful to me. So I set up the appointment and I'm sitting there on Zoom and it's like your host has entered the room let you in soon I'm like and where are we? And where are we? I took a screenshot of myself at 10 minutes after the hour and hung up and then like wow I think that was a Thursday and it was either Monday or Tuesday of this week I got a text from someone on their team being and nothing else after that. And then I got a text from someone on their team being like hey so you had an appointment and um it doesn't look like you showed up are you interested in read and I was like actually that's not true. Uh I was there I waited for 10 minutes before I got frustrated and left and then nobody followed up with me. Oh so it was like do you think it's a tech stack issue like what she said was something like oh we've been having trouble with Zoom not telling people when they're when they're in the rooms that I'm not gonna lie there is something going on with Zoom because we recently but I the there may be but also by the way if you know that that's a problem that you're having then reach out to me exactly do you want my business or not? And so she's like oh you know we've been having and and even if even if it didn't text me right off say hey I missed you on the call you know do you want to set up another time you know maybe something came up do you want to set up another time so she's like uh uh she said you know oh we've been having this we're I'm so sorry we've been having this but but by the way I sent that message to her and then I didn't hear anything for a while. So you know she went to someone above her to be like oh shit this is what happened. So uh so I you know Zooms we've been having this issue with Zoom and um she's like can we set up another call I said no I'm not interested and I'm not gonna risk my prospects having that same experience.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah no that's not good. That makes me really really sad because usually they're on the ball and I will say as an organization I really really love them. I loved being in that mastermind I know you had that good experience.

SPEAKER_01

So that's part of the reason I was interested in like talking to them. But I thought you I I was waiting the call for 10 minutes 10 minutes and then after the fact nobody followed up with me at all. Yeah that's real weird maybe this maybe the sales rep is is no good but like they should have something built into their system to then follow up and be like hey you know we didn't see you on the call but yeah it was that's especially bad because they are a sales rep system. Exactly I'm not gonna like you're trying to sell me on having someone else have the same experience absolutely not yeah shoot yeah I don't like that yeah it's too bad.

SPEAKER_03

It is that is too bad. I was just thinking about some of the other things that have happened to me with other organizations and it's like someone has an amazing experience with them. Like I I really really do like their organization. But like this similar I'm not gonna say who it was but Susie our friend Susie pushed me over to this group and when I got on the call she didn't even know what the call was about and I was just like oh this is not good. And so then she tried to pitch me on their main program which I was like not interested in because that's not why I had gotten on the call. I wanted this particular thing. And so I was just like yeah this is no good. And they're a great organization. I think they've done amazing things for Susie and I'm like they're fantastic. But I like I just like that first impression matters.

SPEAKER_01

Oh so important. So I still I can't remember who the company was it was years ago but it was something where you know it was a sales call and I was like all right fine I'll get on sale I don't love getting on sales calls but fine I'll get on a sales call it was something and this kid was on the call and he just he was like okay so this is the program and this is uh and this is the cost and and I was like okay then like then stopped and I was like okay um okay well I I don't want to be a bitch about this but are you gonna try and sell me on this he's like oh uh like I'm sorry is it my job to close myself I didn't say that part but like is it my job to close myself and then also too and then interestingly too I think at that point was I making I it was early in my business but I think at that point I was making at least like a couple of six a couple six figures a couple times over in at that point in the business. So early but still like you know doing pretty well for being new to it.

SPEAKER_02

And I think he says I was like oh this is what my revenue is he's like well if that's your revenue why do I why do you need us and I was like oh my god what I wanted to be like does your boss know that you're saying this stuff like what thank you little buddy who I got on you I got on a sales call once and it was Zoom and the person just didn't put their video on it was just black so my video was on my video was on and hers was just off with her name that is so weird I got on a sales call once I think this was when I was looking for a new this feels like a name to know right I got on a sales call once and the kid was eating breakfast.

SPEAKER_03

What finished he was in an office somewhere but he was he was eating while he was trying to tell me about their their accounting yeah I was like uh uh no thank you well and these are all companies making money yes ow they've just hired poorly they've just hired poorly and we just had like the X X experience because like even I was gonna say so this happened to me on a couple of hires I had where they weren't on a sales call because they weren't salespeople but they showed up to their first meeting and they looked like trash like I was like oh what like we're a professional organization you can't come looking like this or my favorite is a couple of them also didn't turn on their cameras and they were like in the Philippines and I was just like oh you've got to have your camera on if you're like part of this team you have to have your camera on I don't know what the frick you're working on. I will tell you those people lasted no more than two weeks because by the time we were done I was just like you don't know how to be professional like okay you're back oh sorry internet do you think it was the anyways breaking in and being like stop saying bad things about our country like serious well they're probably having a rough go don't you think with this AI stuff I the number of my designers have literally said I don't think I'm gonna hire a VA I'm just gonna pay for AI like if you pay the hundred dollar version of Claude it will do a lot of your stuff for you. Granted we still have people on our team from the Philippines but we would keep them now because we love them and adore them and they're members of our team right like not because we can replace them you know I just I wouldn't do that. But I have noticed that in the last year and a half I have not tried to hire anyone new.

SPEAKER_01

No I think I I my guess too is that upwork is going to have that same problem because upwork has always been like people looking for the and I I have hired designers and and developers in the past from upwork but you're looking for the best you can get for the cheapest that you can get and now the best you can get for the cheap the cheapest is going to be AI in a lot of cases. Which I think part of why I think and I know you did the same thing copywriters should not be on upwork to begin with. Like you have to have a better way of getting clients.

SPEAKER_03

I think I think this is where like this AI thing is going to be interesting because if you're a good great designer people are going to hear about you and they're gonna want to hire you to come do all your stuff. Same thing with copywriters like if you're good at what you do people are going to hire you to do those things. So like it's just it's not the same people aren't going and finding cheap labor anymore when AI can do the same thing for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah exactly if you don't know what you're doing if you're trying to break into it with kind of like basic skills sorry friends. Sorry not sorry sorry not sorry I know is that the end do you have anything more that you anything more you want to complain about I have so much to complain about just I don't my life I'm gonna end it and but you have to guess what podcast I'm ending it like and that's the pod Oh
